Final link set to join 3 counties cave system after 40 years
You wouldn't know it as you walked the western fells of the Yorkshire Dales, but beneath your feet a 40 year quest is finally coming to an end. A long awaited breakthrough in the next few months should finally link a cave system that runs under parts of North Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria. Already known in caving circles as "Three Counties" the final link will join Notts Pot and Lost Johns Cave to join Lancashire and Yorkshire.

It doesn't matter whether you're just starting out or been in the game for years, you can't avoid the fact that there's an overwhelming array of kit for the outdoor enthusiast to choose from and it's a hard job sifting through them all for the perfect solution. By definitition trekking means to undertake a journey on foot, but traditionally in the outdoor world it refers to multi-day hikes through rural, and usually wild and rugged, scenery. If we're planning a trip we tend to rely on the Mountain Weather Information Service and Metcheck's mountain Forecasts for up to the minute forecasts. In winter the Scottish Avalanche Information Service is an essential stop if you're heading for the Cairngorms or Lochaber, whilst the Midge Forecast is almost as necessary for summer visits.
