North Wales rescue teams set to match record callout levels

New figures from Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue show that callouts are set to match, or even exceed, last year's record levels. After averaging 65 callouts a year over the last ten years 2009 brought an unprecedented increase with 133 incidents, and with 58 callouts already this year the record could be broken - "We are neck-and-neck with callouts this year compared to this time on last year," said Chris Lloyd from the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team.

The Brecon MRT is also seeing record numbers of callouts with 50 calls already, compared to a total of 97 last year and the pattern looks similar throughout Wales with North East Wales Search and Rescue Team being called out 26 times so far this year.
