Scottish Natural Heritage launch Simple Pleasures campaign

Scottish Natural Heritage have launched a nationwide campaign to encourage more people to visit the outdoors following a disappointing survey of all Scottish households. The Scottish Recreation Survey put the number of households across the country making use of a "fantastic natural environment" at just 53%.

Targeted primarily at residents of Scotland's largest cities the Simple Pleasures campaign is backed by the Environment Minister, Roseanna Cunningham, who said "Taking the time to enjoy the nature on our doorsteps can be hugely rewarding. It is not only great fun, but there are also many mental and physical health benefits to be gained by getting outdoors regularly. Scotland's outdoor environment is filled with fun and accessible activities for people of all ages and I hope this campaign encourages more people to enjoy Scotland's fantastic natural environment more often."

Along with promoting use of green space in the cities the campaign also highlights places to visit from woodlands and forest parks to hills and mountains. Routes ranging from local path networks to long distance trails are available through the campaign's website along with tips on planning and a guide to access rights.
