Jetboil Helios Reviewed
The Jetboil Helios is marketed as "The easiest to use, most efficient, high capacity system available for outdoor cooking". Jetboil's FluxRing® heat exchanger makes the system more efficient and faster than standard canister stoves and comes built in to compatible pans. The inverted canister design improves efficiency further, allowing gas to evaporate at the burner and giving a more consistent flame and allowing use at lower temperatures. Helios lights quickly and reliably with the click of a button and packs away into its own pans.
When you see as many packs as Webtogs, one of the UKs leading outdoor retailers, you know what seperates a good one from the run-of-the-mill. Here in a guest review Gareth Jones, Customer Services Manager for Webtogs casts his expert eye over the Mountain Hardware Koa 35. THe review also appears on Gareth's excellent Jonesnow blog.
Leading internet retailer Webtogs have added to their list of instructional videos, this time featuring a third model in the Nemo brand of tents. Nemo are a relatively new name to the UK outdoor market but have made an instant impact with their revolutionary inflatable pole system.
ViewRanger on the iPhone - First impressions and field test
Unquestionably the best iPhone app for UK users, ViewRanger delivers clear GPS enabled mapping with an intuitive and efficient interface that actually works in the field. The competition may have got there first, but ViewRanger has already built up an envious reputation for entering a market late but doing it right first time. As a daily user of the impressive ViewRanger software on the Symbian platform (that's Nokias and most non Windows hand-helds of the last few years) I've been awaiting ViewRanger's entry into the iPhone market
Ideal for the fast moving hill walker wanting a late pitch and early start, the Rab Ridge Raider combines the best protective features of traditional bivvies with the luxury of extra headroom for more prolonged use and additional storage space in the porch. At nearly a kilo its more suited to planned use than as an emergency shelter with a permanent place in the pack, but for high level overnight stops where there's restricted pitch space there's nothing better.
The Marmot EOS 1P is reminiscent of a Vaude crossed with a Force 10. The colour and smooth lines give the tent a quality appearance that's not let down when you take a closer look. Although the Eos uses a single pole with the inner suspended from it, the single pole divides near the narrow end of the tent to raise the area above the sleepers feet in a similar way to the pole system of Vaude tents.
The Berghaus Women's Hobart windproof jacket is designed for women taking part in a wide range of outdoor activities where a waterproof shell is unnecessary, but the user still needs protection from wind and occasional showers. The Polartec Windbloc fabric helps protect from the wind and provide enough insulation even for colder days.
A Berghaus' classic, the Hobart windproof jacket is functional yet stylish jacket, ideal for anyone who wants to look the part both on the hill and walking the dog.
You know there's something different about the Nemo Gogo LE the moment you open the bag.....you don't usually get a pump with a tent or bivvy. At the same time you also get that reassuring feeling of attention to detail when you notice the bag is actually watertight. It's a bit like seeing an Apple product or a Satmap Active 10, you just know that if a company's going to go the extra yard on the little things then the basics are going to be spot-on.
Now that most mobiles have integrated GPS receivers the digital mapping companies are all jumping on board. Memory Map and Anquet have supported the Windows
